All About RAZDAZ Recordz

Hello and welcome to the home of Razdaz Recordz.
Razdaz has proudly established itself as a key independent record label, bringing young artistic talent to the forefront of the music industry with the enthusiastic help of its close partners.

Razdaz Recordz was founded in New York City during 2002 by internationally acclaimed bassist, singer, composer and band leader,                                                    Avishai Cohen, with his manager Ray Jefford.

Cohen wanted the chance to record and produce younger musicians who he has lots of enthusiasm for, but initially the label was to give him an outlet to creatively express the diversity of his own musical vision and artistic passions.

“I’ve always been interested in several genres of music, including jazz, rock, pop, Latin and funk. I’m always packed with ideas. I decided to start my own label because I’m involved in so many different projects.”

Avishai Cohen, 2003

Now, with fourteen years experience, the label has produced fourteen releases; 6 albums by its founder Avishai Cohen, and the remaining by other exceptional talents that Cohen has either performed with or discovered in his vast musical world. Razdaz Recordz produces and presents an eclectic mix of genres, ranging from middle-eastern vibes to wild techno beats, jazz rhythms to soulful vocals.

2016 will see the release of the debut album by young jazz musician, guitarist and band leader, Shachar Elnatan. Watch this space!

History in the Making…

SSC 4601imageRazdaz released its debut in September 2003 with ‘Lyla’ (Avishai Cohen) an extraordinary 11-song collection that encompasses a range of styles and showcases Cohen’s multifaceted musical prowess. Razdaz Recordz established worldwide connections and distribution through its many collective partners to ensure its music is spread wide and in many mediums.

After ‘At Home’ (2004) and ‘Continuo’ (2006), both of which crafted by Cohen, Razdaz released its fourth album with drummer Mark Guiliana, whom had performed with Avishai as part of his trio for five years. Guiliana decided to go on his own musical journey and created ‘Locked in a Basement’, with his own band ‘HEERNT’, ‘a slick burnin’ electrofunk Trio’. (Time Out New York, June 2006)

‘As Is… Live at the Blue Note’ released together with Half Note Records in 2007 as a CD and DVD package, marked Avishai’s return to New York for a series of concerts at the legendary Blue Note jazz club and was his first live recording.

20080305 imageIn 2008 the label released three new projects, bringing to the forefront fresh exciting talent and original music from US based Sam Barsh, ‘one of the most freakishly talented, tasteful and fresh-sounding newcomers today’, (Philip Di Pietro –, with his release ‘I Forgot What You Taught Me’ and Israeli oudist, Amos Hoffman’s debut release, ‘Evolution’, in which Hoffman is joined by Avishai, his long-term friend and musical associate, who performs on bass and piano and contributes vocals. Cohen also released his first trio album ‘Gently Disturbed’, and with it, he achieved a masterstroke, hitting the right balance between a powerful trio recording, and delicate compositions. This release was an amalgamation of melody and groove, complexity and simplicity that redefined the concept of jazz, ‘raised the bar’ for fellow Jazz musicians and which still to this date, is a favourite for many.

RD 4610imageSaxophonist, Jimmy Greene from Canada joined Razdaz Recordz in 2009 producing ‘Mission Statement’. Amos Hoffman returned with a second release in 2010 called ‘Carving’, an album heavily influenced by his friends and family. 2010 was also a new start for Israeli female singer, Karen Malka who had been touring with Avishai Cohen for 3 years prior to her debut release titled ‘Lady of The Forest’.

2012 saw Razdaz Recordz release its twelfth album, with a new addition to the Razdaz musical family, flautist Ilan Salem. ‘Wild’ is Salem’s third album but first under Razdaz, it blends Israeli heritage with Salem’s modern ideas of composition, supported by a tight band.

RD1412imageIn 2014, came ‘All Original’, a beautiful compilation of music celebrating the growing young Israeli Jazz talents and scene. Avishai hand-picked the musicians featured on the album who he considers some of the leading young composers of this movement; Shachar Elnatan Quartet, Omri Mor, Ofri Nehemya Quartet, Nitai Hershkovits and the band Jupiter.

In early 2015 Avishai Cohen released to the world his new (and latest), highly anticipated trio album ‘From Darkness’, featuring Nitai Hershkovits (piano) and introducing the talented Daniel Dor on drums. The Israeli composer, bassist and singer goes back to the very core of his musical idiom and activity; the trio, a format that has always been present in Avishai’s music, has never been praised so much than in this album, outstanding for the unity and mutual listening between the three partners. “With this Trio, there is an immediate form of equality between musicians. Here, three becomes one” says Cohen.

Having grown even more as a musician since recording on ‘All Original’, guitarist Shachar Elnatan now releases his debut album, ‘One World’ in September this year on. We are very  excited for you to hear his striking sounds from September 9th (available on pre-order from August 26th)!

Stay tuned for music!
